Learned something interesting from a fabric guy I spoke with last week. “leather” seats in cars only need to have some amount of leather in them for it to be called that. Sometimes that means the leather is ground up and mixed with synthetics to form a leather veneer, sometimes its just a single leather panel and the rest is vinyl. I can’t recall what car he referenced (it was an FCA of some type) where the “leather seats package” had one tiny section of the bottom seat cushion that was actually leather and the rest was fake. Its like Taco Bell “beef”.

What a shocker: bean counting and false advertizing through technicalities. Might explain why modern leather can’t compare to say an old Mercedes.

Yup, but on the plus side, its probably why new cars wont have their seats splitting apart like mine...necessitating talking to a fabric guy.

A “leather interior” typically means leather seating surfaces - top of bottom and seat back, with everything else vinyl. Hell, even Rolls-Royce did that with the 90s Silver Dawn.

yup, I guess its with furniture too, he was saying the majority of “leather couches” are about 18% actual leather.

Beware of anything that says “bonded leather”. Usually not worth the paper that tag’s printed on.
